IMAGE OF THE WEEK #17

It looks like "One Green Bottle" did accidentally fall. Or maybe not, I'm unsure if this bottle came with a message either, or perhaps it does? How about "Please place your rubbish in the bins provided."
I have a bit of a thing for littering. My Nan taught me that if there are no bins around then you are to place your rubbish in your pocket until you find one, alternately place it in the bin once you're home.
I always had pockets full of trash as a child.
There is however, something strangely poetic about this bottle, maybe it will make a new home for a little family of fish or perhaps a crab that needs a new shell. Expect more trash talk soon.

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #16

Refreshingly emerald water strokes the shore of Makarska, Croatia. I don't feel the need to talk about this weeks image, apart from to say that I adore Croatia. Such a beautiful country, with landscapes so varied that one minute you could feel like your on Mars and the next you can be in lush alpine forest. It has to be one of my favorite places on this fragile Earth of ours. There will be more from Croatia soon, enjoy.

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #15

In the words of the great American photographer Robert Adams "You're always struggling to open your own eyes, as well as other peoples..." When I first heard him say this, it struck me that this is a constant battle I have within myself. One approaches their work trying to say something, now this something doesn't have to really be anything, however one attempts to make the viewer understand a scene in the sentiment that was first recorded.
This weeks image is all about what I have just spoken of. You, the viewer may read the image in any number of ways, but do you see what I saw? You can't feel the heat, the ground under your feet and the sound of the railcars rattle by. For me the whole point of photographing is to allow you into my thoughts, feelings and views of the world, therefore allowing me an opportunity to emote in a way that I can't with words.

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #14 + NEWS

Happy New Year! We are back in full swing, so expect an image of the week to be coming every week from now on. We are starting this year with the first showing of Shadowed By A Roadside, which will be opening on the 27th of Jan running until the 7th of Feb at Gaffa gallery in Sydney.

So what better way to start off a new year with a photograph taken on New Years Day (in 2005).

There is something quite special about New Years Day. We reflect on the year that has passed and have hope for the year to come. We celebrate with our loved ones and wish the best for everyone. Even people drive respectfully, which in Sydney is a rare thing indeed.

I took this shot on Lido, a small island just near Venice. Every year they have a beach party. People are dishing out free food and wine, the atmosphere was truly Italian, warm air, a tummy full of food, laughter and an abundance of fur coats. This shot also won Excellence In The Use Of Colour in the 2010 Kodak Salon. Until next week...

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #13

We all love and hate having our pictures taken. We take them to preserve a precious moment in time. In days, weeks, months or years, our memory fades, but the photograph in whatever form it was captured still exists, reminding us of that fleeting moment. On our travels I was asked many times by complete strangers to take a photo of them. We have all done this at some point in time. The thing I find fascinating, is that you are being invited into their world for the briefest moment, never to be seen again. I made it my quest to record this phenomena.

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #12

What are we thinking whilst observing nature? Are we simply feeling? Are we preoccupied with the ever present chatter inside our heads? The things I can be sure of, is it's a time to stop, observe, touch, smell and feel. What is this person thinking? We can draw our own conclusions, all of which will be varied depending on how we feel at the time of viewing. A great image to me, is one that makes the viewer go beyond their initial thoughts and look deeper at a situation, place or moment.
