IMAGE OF THE WEEK #13

We all love and hate having our pictures taken. We take them to preserve a precious moment in time. In days, weeks, months or years, our memory fades, but the photograph in whatever form it was captured still exists, reminding us of that fleeting moment. On our travels I was asked many times by complete strangers to take a photo of them. We have all done this at some point in time. The thing I find fascinating, is that you are being invited into their world for the briefest moment, never to be seen again. I made it my quest to record this phenomena.

What are we thinking whilst observing nature? Are we simply feeling? Are we preoccupied with the ever present chatter inside our heads? The things I can be sure of, is it's a time to stop, observe, touch, smell and feel. What is this person thinking? We can draw our own conclusions, all of which will be varied depending on how we feel at the time of viewing. A great image to me, is one that makes the viewer go beyond their initial thoughts and look deeper at a situation, place or moment.

Happy Thanksgiving... Ok, so I'm a week late, but it's red, white and blue all the way in the town of Montpelier, Idaho.

A worker does his best to show off his goods to passers by, they do their best not to acknowledge his existence. They would probably walk straight through him if they thought it possible. Italy has an abundance of foreign workers, some are forced workers working for local crime syndicates, some are just trying to do what they can with what little they have. It is hard, if not impossible, for the passer by to make a distinction between the two.
We should however, remember that every person has a story and every person deserves to be given the same amount of respect as the next.

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #9

Over the years I have been drawn to photographing doors and windows. A rather banal subject matter you may think. I however, believe quite the opposite. They serve as entry and exit to a private world that only few people know and understand. Ultimately, they are captivating portals into another world. We choose to show off facets of our lives; trophies, knick knacks, items that are forgotten to the outside world. An intimate glimpse into what we hold dearest.

With the arrival of Prince Harry in Gila Bend, Arizona, fathers have been locking up their daughters for fear of the naughty prince having his wicked way.
A short quote from Mayor Henry "There are probably some fathers here who would go to extremes to protect their daughters, some of the dads won't take too kindly to a prince fornicating the night away."(From The Daily Mail, UK)
If I was Prince Harry I would worry less about the gun totting and more about the size of their trucks. On a recent stay in Gila Bend, I made the decision to not try and park in my allocated spot, as I didn't fancy knocking on number 20's door and politely asking him to move his big ass truck.

I noticed the deeper we got into the country, the abundance of wildlife grew, as was the apparent desire to kill it and show it off to all that care to pay attention. In the west hunting, killing and showing off your prize appears to be part of being a man. We had chats with various folk along the way, that described guns and hunting as being a big part of daily life. They are happy to admire a proud deer in the wild just as much as having its head on their wall at home. Being a lover of animals this almost schizophrenic attitude is impossible to comprehend, but then I didn't grow up in the 'American West'.

As a fan of all things automotive, we made a special pilgrimage to the Bonneville Salt Flats. We really lucked out, chance would have it that the world famous speed week was in full swing.
It is a truly amazing place. People watch in awe as machines of all shapes and sizes take to the salt with a glimmer of hope that they might beat the clock and set a new record. For me, it was yet another big tick on the bucket list.

As you may or may not be aware, gold seems to be the only thing worth owning these days.
So why not invest in this golden beauty, a 1969 Plymouth Fury III. Two previous lady owners, low mileage, never raced. Cash only. $9000, ask inside. From another new series...

IMAGE OF THE WEEK #2

A little bit of nature for you this week. Before taking this, I was shooting a couple having an embrace. I noticed how the flat landscape was mirrored in the clouds and how the land was echoing the sky.
The interesting thing is, as humans we seem to come together and feel 'something' at places with a natural force. We stop, listen, go inside ourselves and share a moment in time, however fleeting it may be. The funny thing is, that as soon as the couple turned away from the view they started to argue, the energy gone, falling straight back into their previous dynamic. There will be more to come on the lovers.

Welcome to Coney Island, New York.
We spent a sweaty summers day taking in the sights, sounds and smells of this truly amazing place.
It's a place where people can go get loose and not be judged, they do however love to be watched!
It comes as no surprise that it's a photographers mecca. Coney Island has been photographed for many years, as many incarnations. The one thing that stood out to me the most was that people just have fun and don't give a damn what people think. There will be plenty more images on the way!

Road Tripping

Well what a winter!

We were lucky enough to avoid winters frosty bite.

We travelled from May 9th through to August 25th.

Over the coming months I will do my best to post some tasty treats from our travels.

Here is a little something to get you started.

After the first heavy rainfall for over three months, Steve was celebrating after a hard days work in Tombstone, Arizona.
